How to Avoid Stretch Marks
Skin Care - Stretch Marks
If you use preventative measures to avoid stretch marks, you can also avoid some of the costly treatments options for getting rid of stretch marks. The human body’s skin is composed of three different layers.  The top layer, the Epidermis, keeps toxins from entering the body.  The second layer, the Dermis, is responsible for producing the collagen which gives our skin a smooth look.  This is where the stretch marks are to be seen.  The third layer, the Hypodermis, is made up of fat and connective tissues.

Stretch marks are very common in all ages and sexes.  They are formed when our skin needs to expand quickly.  Some causes of this would be sudden weight gain or weight loss, puberty, stress, heredity and pregnancy.  When our skin tries to expand, the collagen is bothered.  The skin tries to heal the wounds by increasing the amount of collagen in that tissue that has been stretched which results in those pinkish or light purplish lines.  These do not cause physical pain but are often found to cause much emotional stress.

There are many ways that you can help prevent the stretch marks.  No one wants to have these on their body when it comes time to put that bathing suit on.  Treatments for stretch marks can be very expensive so it’s better to try to keep from getting them in the first place than treating them later on.

Maintain a well balanced diet.  Keep your weight gain and loss under control.  This is the most common cause of stretch marks (besides pregnancy).  You can also take vitamins.  This will help keep your body well nourished with the proper nutrition that you need that you may not be getting from your food.

Drink plenty of water.  This can not be stressed enough.  This is important for not only your skin but for you health as well.  Dehydration causes your skin to become dry and delicate making it prone to stretch marks.  When your body is hydrated, it is very easy for your skin to jump back and repair the damage it experiences and protecting your skin.  Studies are beginning to show that caffeine can cause stretch marks because it dehydrates you.

Moisturize your skin.  Cocoa butter is an amazing cream to help prevent stretch marks.  It is recommended for pregnant women.  Massage this cream or other similar creams and lotions, to the area that you are trying to prevent from getting stretch marks.  You can find many alternative lotions that are strictly for preventing stretch marks at your local store.  Moisturize your skin twice daily, once in the morning and once at night with a lotion or cream.  If you already have some stretch marks, cocoa butter and these creams found for preventing the stretch marks can be remarkable in use.

Be cautious when buying over the counter products that claim to prevent or treat stretch marks.  While, some have exceptional results when using these products, some may not have such results.  Be sure to just take care of your body inside and out.  This will be the most helpful factor in keeping those stretch marks away from your body so that you don’t have to feel that emotional neglect.
