Preventing the Formation of Freckles
Skin Care - Freckles
Preventing freckles is a lot easier than removing them once they are there. Having freckles does not necessarily isolate you from the world. Many people all over the world already have freckles. Treating them by eliminating these spots or making them lighter can become very painful, as well as very expensive.

Freckles are usually caused by too much exposure to the sun. They can usually be seen in people who are light-skinned, or people with red or blond hair.

The sun’s rays can cause freckling in the face because they can stimulate melanocytes. These cells are responsible for creating pigments on your face. The pigments are called melanin, and while they may be helpful in preventing the sun’s rays from completely affecting the skin, accumulated amounts of melanin causes the formation of freckles, blemishes, and age spots. Once melanocytes are stimulated, they may induce the growth of new freckles or increase the size of the old ones.

Nowadays, the most popular treatment for freckles involves lasers. Because laser beams are trained on the face by highly precise instruments, they are capable of removing freckles without putting the healthy cells surrounding it at risk. This treatment became very popular because it doesn’t cause much pain and it is a very quick procedure. It only takes around 5 to 10 minutes of your time. Unlike traditional treatments, the lasers will not cause the texture or color of the skin to change. But this treatment can be very expensive. Plus, although there is not much pain, there is still pain. Additionally, you will be restricted to do your favorite sunbathing activities for some time because the wounds need to heal.

Because freckles are caused by the sun, the most logical and the most effective way for preventing them is to avoid it, especially when summertime comes. However, the promise and temptations of sunbathing and fun in the sun can be hard to resist. If you love to go to the beach but you are still concerned about the formation of freckles, your best ally is a good sunscreen. Your dermatologist should be able to tell what kind of sunscreen is best for you, as well as the level of protection appropriate for your skin.

Less sun exposure means less freckles, and will thus mean lesser chances of you having to undergo laser treatment at all. If you already have them, you can use a product called lumnaderm, which functions to reduce freckles. It also makes the skin appear lighter. Additionally, it can reduce blemishes and age spots caused by hyper pigmentation, or the excessive production of melanin by melanocytes.
